Full Time Shift:
Monday Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm The role you'll contribute: Population Health Services (PHSO) at AdventHealth is seeking an Actuarial Consultant to expand Actuarial Services housed in the Finance Department. The role reports to Manager, Actuarial Services, and enhances the support provided by Actuarial Services to PHSO and the wider Primary Health Division (PHD). The ideal candidate is a finance-oriented actuary or an actuarially oriented finance person who may or may not possess actuarial credentials. Relevant experience at a health system, insurance company, consulting firm, or startup in population health, along with strong problem solving and computational skills, is essential. Working knowledge of major medical claims, insurance contracts, and traditional actuarial functions (e.g., claims completion, seasonality analysis, risk scoring, stop loss analysis) is essential. Ideal experience includes traditional actuarial functions of valuation/reserving or pricing. Experience with traditional actuarial methodologies for IBNR, seasonality, etc. is desired. Knowledge of shared risk financial models (e.g., MSSP, ACO REACH, commercial ACOs) is desirable but not essential. Experience with Medicare Advantage is relevant but not a significant consideration. While the position involves some analytics work, most deliverables are in the actuarial-finance area. High levels of professionalism and comfort coordinating in a multi-disciplinary, remote team are essential. The ability to structure deliverables in a logical, consistent, and transparent manner is highly desired. The value you will bring to the team: The Actuarial Consultant is part of the PHSO Finance team that assists the PHD in the transition from traditional risk models to Value-Based Care models and other innovative solutions to healthcare risk challenges. This role requires a finance/actuarial professional who is technically strong, innovative, and adaptable to industry changes. As a member of the actuarial team, the Actuarial Consultant is responsible for assisting leadership in providing and enhancing strategic and technical services related to contractual outcomes analysis, projections, contract renewal, risk assessment, and underwriting. The Actuarial Consultant Periodically monitors, assesses, and estimates the risk of new and existing contracts Supports the monthly financial close process for the PHSO and other parts of the PHD Contributes to enhancing actuarial and financial models and may take primary responsibility for development and implementation of such models Builds strong relationships and communicates appropriately and effectively with leadership, stakeholders, customers, and peers The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed: Minimum qualifications : Bachelors or higher degree from an accredited institution in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field Problem solving, analytical, and quantitative background and orientation Self-starter with initiative, curiosity, skills, and patience to grapple with data and data analysis issues that may not be completely defined Beginner to intermediate experience with health care claims and related data and analysis (at least 1-2 years experience) Working knowledge and understanding of probability and statistics at the introductory college level Beginner to intermediate skill in one or more of the following: SQL, SAS/EG, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau or similar Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Willingness to independently learn and develop skills as required in an encouraging and supportive environment that can occasionally become fast paced Desire and ability to independently imagine, develop, and own deliverables Works collaboratively with the team while prioritizing deliverables and team priorities Possesses high-level interpersonal skills and works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and diverse teams that may include senior executives and customers Communicates effectively with stakeholders, customers, supervisors, and colleagues Maintains awareness of and communicates issues and potential delays that may impact productivity and delivery of the team's deliverables Performs other duties as assigned to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the organization Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success at independently learning and developing relevant skills Demonstrated success at imagining, implementing, and owning deliverables Actuarial, analytics, or finance experience at health insurance company, or health provider, or consulting firm or equivalent Actuarial valuation and reserving experience for major medical insurance contracts or equivalent This facility is an equal opportunity employer and complies with federal, state and local anti-discrimination laws, regulations and ordinances.
