The candidate must have at least 3-months within the last two years of verifiable experience in agriculture, specifically related to broccoli, cauliflower, green leaf lettuce, iceberg lettuce, and romaine lettuce to avoid crop damage and personal injury. Variable weather conditions. All work must be performed in a manner that exhibits Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and the utmost food safety at all times. The worker must attend the required orientation, which time will be compensated. Must be able to understand work & safety instructions in English or Spanish, the languages spoken and written in the workplace. Willingness to travel between worksites: The position may require travel between different farm locations. Candidates must be willing to work in various locations as needed and adapt to different environments. Attention to detail: Precision in record-keeping, data analysis for crop yields, and reporting on daily operations is required to ensure optimal farm performance. Workers must be able to listen, understand, and follow the instructions of company management. Workers must be willing to perform all duties according to the employer's rules and regulations during the contract period. Tools and equipment: Workers will be provided with all the necessary tools and equipment to perform the job duties. Broccoli: Employees will walk with the harvesting machine bending at the waist, selecting and cutting the correct size and best quality broccoli head. They will put it on the packing table for the packer, who is standing on the broccoli machine platform using their best judgment to select the best quality broccoli and meticulously place it in the correct order and style inside the box. Cauliflower Harvester: To harvest cauliflower in the field by hand. Responsibilities include cutting mature cauliflower heads using knives, trimming leaves, and placing the product into field containers or onto harvest equipment. Employees will walk in front of the harvesting machine, bending at the waist to select and cut cauliflower of the appropriate size and quality. They will trim excess leaves, inspect for quality, and place the product onto a packing table for the packer or directly into cartons, totes, or bins. Packers, stationed on the harvesting machine platform, will carefully select high-quality cauliflower and arrange it properly in boxes. Workers may also sort, clean, and pack harvested cauliflower in the field. Green Leaf Lettuce Harvester (Fieldworker): To harvest green leaf lettuce by hand in the field. Tasks include cutting, coring, trimming, bagging or wrapping, and packing fresh lettuce. Using a harvesting knife and bending at the waist, workers will cut mature lettuce heads from the roots, trim outer leaves, and prepare them for packing into cartons, totes, or bins. Employees will walk in front of the harvesting machine, placing lettuce onto the packing table for the packer, or directly into field containers. Packers on the machine platform will inspect quality and place the lettuce in the correct order and style inside the boxes. Workers may also be required to sort, clean, and pack lettuce in the field. Iceberg Lettuce: To harvest iceberg lettuce. Cut, core, bag/wrap, pack and load fresh lettuce in the field. Cutting is done on a harvesting machine by using hands and a cutting knife. Using a harvesting hand knife and bending at the waist, the employee cuts the head from the roots and trims the outer leaves from the head to prepare it to be packed into a carton, tote, or bin. The process is repeated. Romaine Lettuce: Fieldworker to harvest romaine conventional romaine hearts. Cut, bag, pack, and load fresh lettuce in the field. Cutting is done on a harvesting machine by using hands and a cutting knife. Using a harvesting hand knife and bending at the waist, the employee cuts the head from the roots and trims the outer leaves from the head to prepare it to be packed into a carton, tote, or bin. Equipment Operation: Operate basic packing shed equipment safely (with training and supervision). This may include conveyor belts, bagging machines, scales, or labeling machines. Assist with loading or unloading machinery, and alert supervisors of any equipment malfunctions. Quality Control: Follow all quality standards during processing. Remove any sub-standard product that may have been missed during initial sorting including defective or rotting bulbs. Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain a clean work area. Regularly remove trash, and debris from sorting tables, floors, and equipment. Sweep and mop the packing area as needed to keep it tidy. Sanitize workstations and tools according to food safety guidelines. Assist in basic routine maintenance or cleaning of equipment to keep operations running smoothly.
