Highway & Roads Market Sector DirectorPrimary Responsibilities Market Sector Directors (MSD) drive our business within the HDR matrix management structure. The HDR Highway & Roads (H&R) market sector is the largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients operating highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures. HDR’s primary professional services in this sector include bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services. This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures. The responsibilities are divided into: Market leadership and business development (~70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) The Director sets the vision for HDR’s strategy in this sector, supporting growth initiatives, staff development, and strategic planning in coordination with various leadership levels. They also maintain client relationships, oversee business development, and represent HDR in industry organizations. Business Development The Director will oversee market analysis, client engagement, pursuit of contracts, and strategic positioning. They will serve as a client manager for key accounts, participate in project pursuits, and foster industry partnerships. Staff Development Leading an effective organization, the Director supports technical excellence, staffing plans, and recruitment efforts, including key hires and performance reviews. Support to Operations The Director assists in project delivery, monitors performance indicators, reviews contracts, promotes quality assurance, and facilitates knowledge sharing. Qualifications
Minimum 20 years in highway or bridge design/engineering Professional engineering license or equivalent Leadership experience in industry associations (e.g., AASHTO, IBTTA) Additional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least 12 years of industry experience with leadership, excellent communication skills, client management skills, and a strategic mindset.
