Primary Responsibilities
Market Sector Directors (MSD) drive our business within the HDR matrix management structure. The Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is HDR’s largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, and bridge structures, and offers services such as bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services. The responsibilities are divided into three main areas: Market leadership and business development (~70%) Staff development (20%) Support to Operations (10%) The Director sets the vision for HDR’s growth strategy in this sector, supporting regional and area leadership to achieve business goals, develop staff, and implement strategic initiatives. They maintain regular communication with leadership to align on growth and operational plans. The role involves managing relationships with US state departments of transportation, expanding into Canada, UK, Middle East, and Australia, and engaging with local clients on various services. The Director also leads business development, client management, strategic planning, and industry engagement efforts. Qualifications
Preferred: Minimum 20 years in planning/engineering in highway or bridge design Professional engineering license or equivalent Leadership roles in highway/road associations (AASHTO, IBTTA, etc.) Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field At least 12 years of industry experience with leadership Excellent communication, client management, business skills, and strategic thinking HDR is committed to diversity and inclusion, offering a comprehensive benefits package, and fostering an inclusive work environment.
