The Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will have knowledge of the functionality of a variety of vehicles, commercial vehicles and heavy equipment in order to perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on the Company’s vehicles and equipment.

The Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will diagnose problems and potential issues in equipment/vehicles and repair and/or replace the faulty part. A full road test will be performed after each repair to determine if the vehicle is ready for use.

The Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will hold the highest standards of safety and quality in mind prior to clearing a vehicle and/or piece of equipment for use by any Gage It Construction, LLC employee.

The Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will work mostly independently, keep a well-organized and clean shop, have strong organizational skills and be highly proficient in self-managing repair projects.

The Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will work in all types of weather and working conditions while maintaining high standards of safety.

*Duties and Responsibilities:*

- May travel to the locations where the vehicle/equipment is in use and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic systems.

- Perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on heavy equipment, including, but not limited to excavators, vac trucks, drill trucks, punch trucks, loaders, graders and commercial vehicles.

- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic systems and plan sequence of repair operations.

- Works closely with the Shop Supervisor and other Supervisor(s) to determine repair and maintenance priorities.

- Test drive/operate vehicles and equipment for diagnostic faults (which may include maneuvering vehicles and other devices).

- Performing painting, heating, drilling, bolting, welding, brazing, sand blasting, soldering and/or cutting operations.

- Adjust, repair, and/or replace parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and other equipment.

- Adjust/repair hydraulic systems and components.

- Dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery.

- Communicate with the Shop Supervisor on all repairs/maintenance & parts ordering

- Perform vehicle and equipment inspection and repairs, including, but not limited to annual DOT inspections.

- Investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions.

- Clean and maintain parts, tools, and equipment.

- Maintain detailed records of all repairs, maintenance, inspections, service logs, and parts orders.

- Maintain and instruct other Shop personnel on proper safety procedures.

- Other duties as required by the Shop Supervisor, General Manager or Owner.

*Skill Requirements/Experience:*

- Must have considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance & repair of various types of heavy equipment & other power-driven equipment/tools.

- Must have the ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.

- Must have working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

- Must be skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment.

- Must have the ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.

- *Must possess and maintain a CDL Class A License in the state of Oregon.*

- 5+ years' experience in automotive engine repair and heavy equipment repair.

- 4+ years' experience in TIG, gas shield, and stick welding.

- Extensive knowledge of repair procedures.

- Extensive knowledge of fabrication and machine operations.

- Extensive knowledge of safety procedures with hand tools and chemicals.

- Knowledge of basic computer software and operating systems.

- Must be able to communicate effectively (written, oral, and electronic) with all levels of staff, vendors, and members of the community.

- Must be able to understand, prioritize, and carry out complex oral and written directives and instructions.

*Education Requirements:*

- High School diploma or equivalent.

Special Provisions:

- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

- Must be enrolled in the Company’s random drug testing program.

- Must pass a pre-employment functional exam.

- Weekends/night shifts may be required for emergency repairs.

- May be required to perform road service on equipment.

- Must complete an OSHA 10 online safety certification course.
