Job Description
We're seeking a seasoned Accountant to join a respected organization serving the greater Sacramento area. This vital role supports the Controller in managing the Agency's financial, banking, budgeting, and accounting functions, while acting as a key liaison to Program Managers and Agency Directors on a range of fiscal matters. The Accountant also oversees the day-to-day operations of the Fiscal Department, providing leadership and guidance to junior staff, including the Accounts Payable Specialist.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in implementing and updating accounting policies to align with funding requirements and audit recommendations. Ensure the department is fully prepared for audits and site visits.
- Oversee the integrity and timeliness of financial data across all accounting activities, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
- Supervise junior accounting staff, coordinate with program managers, and regularly meet with leadership to address departmental needs and ensure smooth fiscal operations.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, perform closing audits, and ensure adherence to GAAP and other applicable standards.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, review inter-company transactions, process deposits, record depreciation, and manage funder invoicing and expense allocations.
- Provide backup support for accounts payable functions, resolve ledger discrepancies, and uphold confidentiality standards for sensitive financial and health information.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting is highly preferred, demonstrating formal training and foundational expertise in financial management
- At least two years of hands-on experience managing automated accounting systems, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing software, general ledger functions, and electronic spreadsheets.
- Proven track record of working within a fund accounting environment, ideally in a government-funded agency or nonprofit setting.
- Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their practical application in day-to-day operations.
