The Accountant supports the financial integrity and operational effectiveness of the university by managing accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and delivering accurate financial reporting. This role is responsible for maintaining general ledger activity, preparing reconciliations, analyzing financial data, and assisting with budget oversight. The Accountant collaborates with academic and administrative departments to support fiscal stewardship, transparency, and the mission of the university.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, reports, and schedules in accordance with GAAP and university policies.
- Maintain accuracy of the general ledger through reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
- Assist in preparing financial data for audits, accreditation reviews, and external reporting requirements.
- Provide financial analysis and projections to assist in strategic decision-making.
- Monitor grants, restricted funds, and endowment accounts to ensure compliance with donor intent and reporting requirements.
- Ensure adherence to university financial policies, federal/state regulations, and higher education accounting standards.
- Support compliance with tax regulations, payroll reporting, and other statutory filings as required.
- Partner with Human Resources, Payroll, and Sponsored Programs to ensure accurate financial processing and reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in higher education or nonprofit environments.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
