Position Summary

The Dental Assistant works under a dentist’s supervision to prepare equipment and patients for dentistry procedures, assist during procedures by passing instruments and supporting the dentist, and perform related duties. Some responsibilities include removing sutures, processing x-rays, and taking oral impressions used to fit crowns.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Prosthodontist/Oral Surgeon
  • Provide chair-side assistance and support during examinations and treatments
  • Ensure patient comfort, prepare patients for treatment, and obtain dental records
  • Hand instruments and materials to dentists; use suction to keep the mouth dry and clear
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment; prepare trays for procedures; instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care
  • Prepare materials for impressions and restorations; take dental X-rays and process X-ray film as directed
  • Assist with radiographic procedures as directed by a dentist
  • Perform office duties as needed (scheduling, confirming appointments, patient reception, treatment records, billing, payments, ordering supplies)
  • Assist in specialty areas (oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics including dental implantology)
  • Support and assist the hygienist with tray cleaning, room setup, and cleanup
  • Track inventory of prosthetic supplies and maintain organized storage
  • Support radiographic needs of Patient Education Consultants, Oral Surgeon, and Hygienists

Working Conditions

  • Well-lit, clean environment near the dental chair
  • Wear gloves, masks, eyewear, and protective clothing to protect patients and staff
  • Follow safety procedures for x-ray use

Experience

  • Certified as a Dental Assistant by the ADA
  • Two years of Dental Assistant experience
  • Dental implant experience desired
  • Reliable, works well in a fast-paced environment, good manual dexterity
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly work in an office environment; walk floors and assist wherever needed
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; stand for extended periods
  • Fine motor coordination and dexterity for handling instruments
  • Move and adjust body positions as required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Anticipated hourly range: $24.00 – $26.00
