Department: This position is within FSU’s Department of Information Technology Services (ITS).

Responsibilities

  • Entry level position with the NCT-Operations group. Focus on Network repairs, VLAN changes, port activations, UPS repairs, ResNet repairs, and assisting Network Administrators on projects.
  • Serve as the operations deployment specialist, under the direction of the Network Specialist, providing troubleshooting and problem resolution as subject matter expert. Provide general IT support including installation, problem solving, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining network communications infrastructure (voice, video, data, access, security, and IP devices) throughout the University network.
  • Port programming and installation of IP-based equipment such as SIP VoIP instruments, cameras, security devices, Ethernet switches, wireless access points, and other network equipment. Perform debugging functions for complex technical problems related to deployment of this equipment.
  • Review, interpret, and prepare worksheets, estimates, service orders, and network diagrams describing voice, video, security, and data communications systems to be installed or repaired. Maintain detailed records of all work activities.
  • Perform network system management using wireless management platforms, VLAN management tools, and similar systems.
  • Design, coordinate, install, rearrange, repair/splice network cabling (fiber optic, CATV, coaxial, UTP, STP, and LAN cabling). Coordinate with network management on cable plant, building wiring installations, repairs, changes, and design.
  • May serve as on-site work coordinator in the absence of or at the request of the Supervisor and may recommend internal policies and procedures. May act as liaison with other University subject matter experts.
  • Perform other duties as required and move heavy objects (25 pounds or more). Operate a State vehicle or other vehicle to reach job sites with a valid driver’s license.
  • Perform duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilize associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of experience, or a combination of post-high-school education and experience equal to four years.
  • A valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including moving heavy objects (25 pounds or more).
