Posting expires: September 30, 2025 Salary: $80,000 General Description and Classification Standards: Performs site inspections for water and/or wastewater infrastructure; logs and tracks all service requests and work orders; responds to customer service requests and ensures that these service requests are resolved in an efficient and timely manner; generates and tracks Hansen work order for all inspection requests. Duties included, but are not limited responding to water and wastewater work orders as directed by the supervisor; contacting customers and investigating their service requests or complaints; determining action necessary to resolve problem; forwarding work orders to the Linear Operations Division for resolution if required; monitoring status of work order until problem is resolved and work order closed out; preparing reports; and processing associated paperwork. Supervision Received: Performs work under general supervision with regular review and advice from a manager or senior-level professional. Follows standardized procedures and written/verbal instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Responds to customer service requests as detailed on service requests and/or work orders. Contact customers and make on-site investigations to determine the extent of the problem and who is responsible for resolving the problem. Create and forward all necessary work orders over to its area of responsibility for resolution. Conducts inspection/investigation of all linear infrastructure construction projects, i.e. defective private sewer lateral connections, water tap connections, private and public property spills, etc. Documents field findings, conditions, and activities related to customer service work orders. Prepares site investigation reports. Prepare monthly work order status report. Perform field investigations, research and respond to water and wastewater related claims and lawsuits against the City of Atlanta; Investigates job sites discrepancies. Provides effective communication with citizens, developers, contractors, plumbers, etc. and other internal DWM staff. Provides quality customer service through thorough inspection, investigation, and communication with citizens and internal/external stakeholders regarding water and wastewater complaints and related matters. Able to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, customers, and members of the general public. Able to use independent judgment and discretion in the handling of emergency situations, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Mathematical ability to handle required calculations. Knowledgeable and proficient with computers. Able to read, understand and interpret plans, work orders, computer printouts and other related materials. Ability to read maps and engineering drawings and locate underground utilities. Extensive knowledge of water and wastewater operations and customer relations is related to the job practices, policies, and procedures necessary for the completion of daily responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience - High school diploma or GED One (1) to three (3) years of construction and/or maintenance of water facilities experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this jobLicensures and Certifications - Water Distribution Operator license is required for employment Must be dual certified within 1 year of employment (Water Distribution Operator license and Wastewater Collection System Operator license.Preferred Requirements - Associate's degree in Business Administration 3 or more years of construction and/or maintenance of water facilities experience or any equivalent combination of training and experienceWork Environment: Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
