Job Summary: This role serves as a strategic HR partner to leadership, handling complex employee relations, ensuring compliance, and supporting key HR functions such as benefits, recruitment, performance evaluations, reporting, and training. The position analyzes HR data to improve processes, leads HR projects, mentors junior staff, and acts as backup to the HR Director.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Act as a strategic HR partner to department leaders, advising on workforce planning and organizational structure.
B. Lead complex employee relations matters, including coaching managers, conducting investigations, and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
C. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance by staying current on federal/tribal employment laws and advising leadership of related updates.
D. Supports benefit administration, including compliance audits and annual open enrollment.
E. Assists with data entry and HRIS maintenance.
F. Participate in discipline and termination meetings as needed.
G. Assists with recruitment and new employee orientation as needed.
H. Analyze HR data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions.
I. Assist with HR reports and metrics for management review.
J. Supports the annual performance evaluation process.
K. Support company-wide HR projects such as policy updates, compensation reviews, and process improvements.
L. Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees on various HR-related topics.
M. Mentor and guide junior HR staff in their professional development with patience and understanding.
N. Act as backup to the HR Director when they are unavailable, or as delegated.
O. Performs other duties as assigned.
P. May be assigned duties under the Chehalis Tribe Emergency Management Plan and Program.
Supervision:
A. Supervision Received: Receives general supervision for routine and non-routine duties, with some autonomy expected in handling complex HR matters.
B. Supervisory Responsibilities: While this role does not directly supervise staff, it helps foster a collaborative, supportive atmosphere and may mentor junior HR team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience: 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated expertise in employee relations, compliance, and generalist functions.
Skills & Abilities:
- Language Skills: Ability to read and write clearly, and to prepare professional correspondence and memos. Comfortable presenting information in one-on-one and small group settings. Able to influence and advise leadership while maintaining confidentiality.
- Mathematical: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in many units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and explain graphs and charts.
- Reasoning Ability: Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving many variables in unique situations.
- Interpersonal Relations: Possess an upbeat personality and be customer-service oriented. Works effectively with other employees and has good verbal communication skills. Able to deal with pressure and work quickly. Has a strong desire to succeed.
- Physical Demands: This position primarily involves sedentary work, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The role requires regular use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents. Occasional walking to other departments or meeting rooms may be necessary. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via email. Light lifting of office materials, such as files or a laptop, may occasionally be required but generally does not exceed 10 pounds.

Additional Requirements:
- Submit to and pass a Drug Test

- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
