Job Description

As an HVAC Construction Lead Technician, you will play a critical role in leading the installation and setup of HVAC systems on commercial and residential construction projects. This position requires a valid RI/MA Refrigeration Journeyman license and a strong understanding of HVAC equipment, ductwork, refrigerant systems, and field coordination. You'll guide apprentices, interpret plans and specs, and ensure high-quality, code-compliant work is completed on time and safely.

Essential Job Functions

Install, route, and secure refrigerant piping, drain lines, and ductwork per plans and specifications Set and mount HVAC equipment including rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, and ventilation systems Braze, pressure test, and evacuate refrigerant lines in preparation for system startup Interpret mechanical drawings, isometric diagrams, and manufacturer specs for field install Identify field challenges and report any changes, delays, or conflicts to the Foreman or PM Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to apprentices and helpers during installation Prep installed equipment and systems for commissioning by others (e.g., controls, insulation, labeling) Ensure all installations meet local and national code requirements and GEM quality standards Conduct self-checks of work for accuracy and code compliance Use hand and power tools, brazing torches, and testing gauges safely and effectively Record daily work completed, material used, and any field deviations using company tools or apps Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all site-specific safety requirements Participate in daily toolbox talks, JHAs, and safety walkthroughs

Required Skills and Experience Valid RI/MA Refrigeration Journeyman License (required) Minimum 2–3 years of experience in an HVAC construction lead or senior installer role Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, submittals, and install specs Skilled in brazing, system evacuation, pressure testing, and setting equipment Solid understanding of duct layout, refrigerant piping, and HVAC component installation High school diploma or GED required Strong verbal communication skills; ability to take direction and give guidance Legally authorized to work in the U.S. Valid driver's license in good standing Comfortable using mobile job apps for timekeeping and documentation

Working Conditions

Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend/holiday hours periodically Will work both indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold to very hot and humid
