Shift Details: This is a part-time position (under 30 hours/week)

Pay Range: $16.00 - $20.00/hour (based on experience)

Job Summary: The Receptionist is the first and last contact that a client will have with the hospital and plays a key role in creating first and lasting impressions. The Receptionist must have exceptional client service and communication skills, computer literacy, ability to handle payment and financial issues, ability to multi-task, a friendly attitude and confidence to deal with stressful situations. The Receptionist will support veterinarians, technicians, veterinary assistants, groomers and kennel staff in daily patient and client care.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MPH.
  • Greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line system; handle inquiries about basic animal care, routine procedures, services and products, and provide knowledgeable wellness advice.
  • Screen and route calls, take and deliver messages, and pull medical records to support documentation.
  • Schedule appointments and surgeries; make confirmation calls.
  • Note in medical records the details discussed during client conversations, including date, time, key points and required information.
  • Enter accurate charges; explain invoices and present services and products before checkout; echo doctors\' recommendations when checking out.
  • Collect payment, handle cash/credit transactions, and verify IDs for checks.
  • Verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts.
  • Check and update medical and computer records; scan new documents to patient records.
  • Fill prescription refill forms and provide routine administration instructions to clients.
  • Advise clients on flea/tick/heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, grooming, and other retail items.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to MPH core values.
  • Computer knowledge required—keyboarding and use of e-mail/internet.
  • Working knowledge of veterinary terminology; able to pronounce, spell, and know the meaning.
  • Excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions and be exposed to highly emotional situations.
  • Ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members, even when busy.
  • Confident, calm, and professional demeanor with clients and staff in stressful situations.
  • Genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in animal care.
