What you will do
Our HR Manager will lead all HR activities across the Massena plant (~550 employees). Responsibilities include labor relations, talent acquisition, employee experience initiatives, and talent management. This role is responsible for the location’s diversity and inclusion strategy and action plan. The HR manager leads, coaches and advises on a cohesive HR strategy through employee feedback, people processes and relationship building. Directs a team of HR professionals, managing their work and development.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic HR Functions:
- Lead team to ensure all departments are staffed appropriately based on headcount needs. Workforce planning, analysis of turnover and future staffing needs with departments to ensure the workforce is prepared for current and future needs.
- Local employee relations leader acting as the primary liaison between management and local union representatives. Resolves location grievances. Interprets and enforces labor contracts to ensure fair treatment and prevent legal issues.
- Provide guidance to management and supervisors on employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions and strategies to maintain positive labor relations.
- Lead talent management including succession planning, employee development and ensuring local participation in talent reviews.
- Demonstrate organizational effectiveness and leadership development.
- Translate business strategy into HR strategy through change management, influence and working cohesively with the plant manager and other site leaders.
- Responsible for leading and executing local internal and external communications for the plant.
- Actively participate with the site lead team and advise on team building and development opportunities.
- Develop and execute employee experience initiatives and engagement strategy for the location.
- Create a diverse workforce and inclusive environment; coach other leaders to do the same.
- Help evolve organizational structure and design to fit the business strategy; advise staff on vital facility changes.
- Develop plant HR team members to enable personal growth and better service to the company.
- Advise staff on leading their teams effectively by demonstrating Alcoa’s PDP, focusing on contribution and conflict resolution.
- Serve as a member of the Plant Lead Team and act as a business partner as they build and implement business strategy.
- Transactional HR Functions:
- Supervise the annual compensation planning processes for the site, coaching managers and analyzing plant recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, policies and processes.
- Responsible for site recruiting, partnering with the Talent Acquisition CoE and hiring managers to evaluate roles and identify qualified candidates.
- Maintain the site disciplinary and grievance process, assist in investigations, recommendations and corrective actions.
- Develop, interpret and administer Alcoa’s policy and procedures in the Human Resources area.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in HR, Business or related field of study.
- 7+ years of progressive people experience.
- Experience working in a large manufacturing facility.
- Experience handling labor relations including grievance resolution, interpreting and enforcing labor contract language, and acting as primary company representative and liaison with local union leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Creating/maintaining positive employee relations environment.
- Strong planning, organizational, group facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage both strategically and operationally, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to influence and communicate across the workforce from management to operators and maintainers.
- Strategically partnering with HR CoE resources to deliver location results.
- Excellent computer skills, including Workday and MS Office (advanced Excel and PowerPoint).

Base salary: $128,500 - $176,500 USD annually. Total rewards packages listed, including base salary and bonus eligibility, apply to US-based applicants only. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on a range of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies in conjunction with multiple components of the Employee Total Rewards Package. Alcoa reserves the right to change plans at its discretion.
