Director of Events - Development

POSITION SUMMARY: Role Type: Hybrid The Director of Development Events is a strategic leader responsible for the comprehensive planning, execution, and oversight of all fundraising-focused events for donors and prospects. Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, the Director will collaborate with senior leaders within the Development department and the hospital to create a high-performing events program. This role requires a strategic thinker, a proven revenue driver, and an astute manager to lead a dedicated team of event specialists. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver with strong initiative, creativity, and excellent communication skills, who can positively shape the future of the organization's event program.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Strategic Event Planning & Execution:

Develop and implement a strategic events plan in partnership with the Major Gifts and Corporate Partnerships teams to achieve fundraising goals, expand the donor base, and drive sponsorships from individuals and corporations.

Revenue Generation & Metrics:

Establish and maintain quantitative and qualitative metrics to evaluate event outcomes, inform future strategy, and maximize return on investment (ROI). Propose new and innovative programming to align with the organization’s evolving goals.

Donor & Stakeholder Relations:

Manage a small portfolio of signature event donors, engaging in solicitation, stewardship, and cultivation activities throughout the donor cycle. Lead event committees and co-chairs to meet engagement and identification goals.

Team Leadership:

Coach and mentor direct reports, as well as oversee external consultants and contractors, to ensure the successful execution of fundraising and cultivation events.

Collaboration & Communication:

Partner with internal teams to deliver an exceptional guest experience, from registration to program execution. Develop a hospital leader event strategy to maximize engagement with donors, and provide timely, accurate briefings to senior leadership.

Organizational Growth:

Provide strategic direction to leverage events for relationship building and revenue growth across all hospital campuses, including BMC Brighton and BMC South.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of non-profit event management experience.

At least eight of those years must include experience managing a team and driving event revenue.

Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Non-profit fundraising experience within a complex organization, such as higher education or healthcare.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs): Proven success in fundraising:

A demonstrated track record of driving significant revenue through events.

Technical proficiency:

Familiarity with fundraising and events software, including Raiser’s Edge NXT, GiveSmart, Whova, and similar platforms.

Leadership & Collaboration:

The ability to lead cross-functional teams, build consensus, and foster teamwork to meet project deadlines and budget constraints.

Professionalism:

A strong executive presence and the ability to represent the organization with high-level stakeholders.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, along with resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to multi-task with great attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
