Job Description Summary: Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection in compliance with SOPs, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
- Perform venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process, following SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluate vein performance, identify problems, and make corrections to ensure donation efficiency, product quality, and donor safety.
- Educate new donors about therapeutic products, screening, health tests, appointment system, fees, policies, nutrition, and answer questions professionally.
- Monitor donors for reactions, assist or notify staff as needed.
- Use PDA to record incidents like machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and adverse events.
- Perform calibrations, verify maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment issues, creating incident reports as needed.
- Monitor donor flow, alert supervisors of issues, and ensure continuous operation.
- Collect samples for testing and record donor data accurately in the electronic system.
- Understand policies related to hyper immune programs, if applicable.
- Maintain a clean environment, ensure supplies are available, and follow safety policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Cross-train in other areas as needed; bilingual skills may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 6 months experience as a phlebotomist (preferred 1 year).
- Preferably 12 months experience in a healthcare environment or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to complete forms, understand instructions, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to stand and walk frequently, reach, bend, kneel, and have manual dexterity.
- Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with potential exposure to hazards and bloodborne pathogens.
- Wear PPE as required, work overtime/support operational needs.
