Job Description Summary: Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection in compliance with SOPs, including donor setup, monitoring, and disconnect.
- Perform venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process, following SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluate vein performance, identify problems, and make adjustments to ensure donation efficiency, product quality, and donor safety.
- Educate new donors about therapeutic plasma products, screening, health tests, appointment system, fees, policies, nutrition, and other relevant information; answer donor questions professionally.
- Monitor donors for reactions, assist with reactions, or notify staff as needed.
- Use PDA to record incidents such as machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and adverse events.
- Perform equipment calibrations, verify maintenance, troubleshoot failures, and create incident reports.
- Monitor donor flow, ensure continuous turnover, and alert supervisors of issues.
- Collect arm or blood samples for testing.
- Accurately record donor data in electronic management systems as per SOPs.
- Understand policies related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
- Maintain a clean work environment and ensure availability of supplies, following safety policies and promoting safety.
- Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- Cross-train in other areas as needed; bilingual skills may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 6 months experience as a phlebotomist for external candidates; 1 year preferred.
- At least 12 months experience in a healthcare environment preferred or equivalent education/experience.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to complete forms and communicate effectively.
- Visual and verbal ability to interact with donors and observe equipment.
- Stand and walk up to 100% of the time.
- Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Fast-paced environment with exposure to hazards and blood-borne pathogens.
- Wear PPE as required; work overtime as needed.
