Phlebotomist

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend improvements in workflow. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and properly explaining the venipuncture process or other specimen collection methods to patients in a courteous manner.

Responsibilities
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
  • Update patient information and ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature and protocol.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draws.
  • Experience with specimen collection and processing.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a related role.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Customer service skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in family medicine or urgent care.
Work Environment

This position is based in an urgent care setting in Alexandria, operating from 8:30 AM to 5 PM with a 30-minute lunch break. You will be seeing a diverse range of patients, including children, with roughly 20-30 patients per day.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
