Position Summary: This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). This position may be responsible to provide coverage at multiple locations. This position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company's computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing and/or the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area. This includes responsibility for pre and post aspects of analytical testing. This position will also perform specified analytical testing as assigned. Follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen collection and general laboratory specimen processing or referral laboratory processing, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria. In IOP locations, manage client relationships within Compliance regulations to meet client needs and Sonora Quest’s business objectives.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information, and other pertinent data on requisitions and orders. Verify accuracy of entered information and specimen appropriateness. Aliquot and label specimens according to procedures; deliver to the technical area or prepare samples for transport. May assist in monitoring workflow and training new employees.
  • Uphold quality by ensuring accuracy and completeness of work; maintain documentation per site protocol; follow established methods; stay familiar with procedures; initiate reports for patient reporting and quality assurance; meet productivity and quality standards; participate in dept/system committees or Six Sigma activities; maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates.
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through efficient use of supplies, reduce costs and improve service; basic knowledge of billing; maintain an error-free work environment.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external customers; work across all areas/departments/shifts as assigned; resolve basic service issues; stay current with internal/external communications.
  • Acknowledge and understand Patient Rights and HIPAA privacy requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (dependent on state regulatory requirements).
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain DHS Fingerprinting Certification as required.
  • Valid state driver’s license (where applicable) and eligibility for company auto insurance coverage.
  • Float positions require travel and flexible hours to cover multiple locations, including mobile/phlebotomy facilities and in-office locations; may include weekends, holidays and overtime; possible on-call duties.
  • Career ladder progression may require meeting ladder requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
