We are proud to offer new base pay rates. New Grads: $19 per hour. Experienced (3yrs - 11+ yrs): $21.07 - $23.36, depending on experience.

Overview

This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). The role may require coverage at multiple locations. The primary responsibilities include the collection and receipt of biological specimens, proper entry into the company system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution of specimens to the appropriate analytical area. The role follows applicable policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and professional standards, and may include performing specified analytical testing as assigned.

Follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and adheres to HIPAA privacy requirements.

Core Responsibilities

  • Specimen collection and general laboratory specimen processing or referral laboratory processing, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity for all ages as required.
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, collection time/date, clinical information, and other data on requisitions; verify accuracy and appropriateness of specimens; aliquot and label specimens; deliver to the technical area or prepare samples for transport; assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees where applicable.
  • Maintain quality by ensuring accuracy and completeness, documenting per site protocol, following established methods, and participating in quality assurance activities and committees as needed.
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies, waste reduction, and knowledge of basic billing; strive for an error-free work environment.
  • Provide courteous, professional communication with internal and external customers; work across areas/departments and shifts as assigned; resolve basic service issues and stay current with communications.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Patient Rights and privacy (HIPAA).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18+
  • High School diploma or equivalent may be required depending on state regulatory requirements
  • Basic knowledge of department resource materials
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience
  • Possession of DHS Fingerprinting Certification or ability to obtain it
  • Valid state driver’s license where required and eligibility for company auto insurance
  • Flexibility to travel to multiple locations, work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; may require on-call duties
  • Progression through career ladder II-IV is subject to completion of career ladder requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Additional related education and/or experience
