Overview

This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). This position may be responsible to provide coverage at multiple locations. This position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing and/or the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area. This includes responsibility for pre and post aspects of analytical testing. This position will also perform specified analytical testing as assigned. Follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct. Performed functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen collection
  • General laboratory specimen processing or referral laboratory processing
  • Ensure correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria as required
  • In IOP locations, manage client relationship within Compliance regulations to ensure needs are met and Sonora Quest's business objectives are satisfied
  • Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time/date of collection, clinical information, and other data on requisitions and orders; verify accuracy and appropriateness; aliquot and label specimens; deliver to the technical area or prepare for transport; may assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees
  • Focus on quality; complete documents legibly; follow procedures; maintain familiarity with departmental procedures; document communications; initiate reports for patient reporting and QA; meet productivity/quality standards; participate in dept/system committees or Six Sigma teams; maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates
  • Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies, waste reduction, and cost-improvement initiatives; basic knowledge of billing
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers; work across all areas/departments/shifts as assigned; resolve basic service issues; stay current with communications
  • Acknowledge and understand the importance of Patient Rights and HIPAA privacy

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18
  • High School diploma or equivalent as required by state regulations
  • Basic knowledge of department resources
  • Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience
  • Fingerprinting certification or ability to obtain
  • Valid state driver’s license as required by department/location; eligible for company auto insurance
  • Flexibility to travel to multiple locations; may require on-call, weekends, holidays and overtime
  • Career ladder progression subject to requirements

  • Additional related education and/or experience
