Overview

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

Position

The Materials Tester provides support to Engineers in construction testing and inspection. This position ensures that materials incorporated into projects are in compliance with contract plans and specifications and also conducts inspections of construction projects to ensure that contractor's work is in conformance with construction plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

Major Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Process materials samples delivered from the CDOT projects and Regions and perform tests listed in the CDOT Field Materials Manual on construction materials in accordance with the applicable ASTM, AASHTO and Colorado Procedures.
  • Determine the required testing needs based on the sample submitted, as well as the ability to identify if all necessary tests can be performed based on the sample size submitted.
  • Research project special provisions and verify that the correct testing standard is being applied and evaluated.
  • Input lab test data into unit spreadsheets and Site Manager for Materials, assign lab test numbers and generate worksheets.
  • Record and prepare test reports for supervisor’s review.
  • Provide regular maintenance of lab equipment, in accordance with manufacturers maintenance schedule, as well as CDOT, AMRL & CCRL criteria.
  • Receive and review information on delivered samples to ensure proper tracking of samples.
  • Train technicians, assistants and region testers and demonstrates proper test methods.
  • Assist in the CCRL/AASHTO re:source accreditation in the Concrete and Physical Properties Lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel required during work hours throughout Colorado to regional testing labs.
  • Required to operate CDOT Vehicles
  • Occasional overnight travel.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and up to 100 lbs.
