Graduate Assistant - Strength & Conditioning

Saint Joseph's College of Maine is accepting applications for the position of Graduate Assistant - Strength & Conditioning.

DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH POSITION: Supports Athletics by providing effective coaching to all Athletic teams; working closely with other professional staff members to ensure smooth function of the student-athlete needs; designing and programming strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams; assisting with items/tasks within the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with an emphasis in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Education
  • Must be matriculated in a graduate degree program at Saint Joseph’s College before the actual start date for the GA position
  • CPR/AED certification is required and must be maintained throughout the course of employment in the position
  • Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) is required
  • At least one year of experience in positions involving the development and management of sport-specific individual and group strength and conditioning programs for men and women is preferred. Student-athlete experience, in any sport at the collegiate level, is preferred

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK ANTICIPATED: 0-20 hours, available August-May. Early afternoon and evening hours are expected.

A Graduate Assistant may not exceed 20 hours per week in their GA position. A GA may work concurrent employment off-campus with prior permission from the supervisor providing the assistantship, with the primary consideration being that the additional hours do not compromise the student’s academic progress or their assistantship responsibilities. GAs are not permitted to work additional assignments beyond their GA position at SJC.
