Why We Need You
Monitor and implement corrective actions for the building's mechanical systems. Diagnose problems and anomalies, document issues, and implement corrective actions. Responsible for preventative maintenance and routine or emergency maintenance repairs as assigned by the Mechanical Systems Supervisor, Manager of Facilities Maintenance, or the Facilities Office. Acts as a resource for other technicians and staff to become more knowledgeable and proficient in building mechanical systems and their operation.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Monitor and implement corrective actions for the building's mechanical systems. Diagnose problems and anomalies, document issues, suggest and implement corrective actions, and provide a comfortable environment for visitors and staff.
- Troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all HVAC systems including air handling units, steam absorption chiller, cooling towers, and all ancillary equipment such as pumps, valves, fans, ducting and variable air distribution units, motors/drives, compressors, thermostats, filters, and condensers; refrigeration equipment; and plumbing systems.
- Complete Work Orders promptly to perform preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance procedures, service, and repairs on automated systems. Assist with related facility equipment to ensure continued operation and a safe, comfortable environment.
- Assist with building and service specifications modifications to improve operation, maintenance, safety, and reliability.
- Occasional indirect supervision of staff in the absence of the Mechanical Systems Supervisor; serve as a resource for other technicians and staff.
- Oversee outside mechanical contractors by scheduling, coordinating, and directing their work to ensure equipment is properly operating and maintain a safe, comfortable environment for staff and visitors.
- Maintain repair and maintenance record logs or files for interdepartmental communications, work, and equipment histories.
- Maintain clean, orderly, and stocked maintenance spaces to support safe and efficient operations.
- Respond to emergency incidents on the property that may threaten safety of staff, guests, and property per the Museum\'s Emergency Preparedness and Management Plan (EPAMP).
- Perform other duties as required by the Manager. Available for emergencies on-call as directed; weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required.

What We’re Looking For (Competencies)
Technical Chops
- At least 10 years experience with various HVAC systems maintaining building mechanical systems, hot and chilled water systems, steam heating systems, air handlers, packaged rooftop units, and other related equipment in an educational, institutional, industrial, or similar setting.
- At least 5 years of experience with computer based building management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex repairs using advanced diagnostic and repair skills for commercial mechanical systems (pumps, seals, actuators, etc.), DDC, and pneumatic controls, and extensive knowledge of commercial HVAC systems.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in the service and repair of split refrigeration systems.
- An advanced understanding of building and equipment schematics and diagrams.
- Technical experience and working knowledge of building management systems.
High School Diploma or equivalent; or advanced education: Vo-Tech Certification in HVAC and Refrigeration.
Possession of a current Massachusetts Journeyman level license in HVAC and Refrigeration is required.
