Overview

Seeking an experienced and dynamic HVAC Supervisor to oversee all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) operations across its client’s VSTC Campus. This leadership role will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and management of the university’s HVAC systems, which include steam boilers, commercial chillers, and building automation systems.

The HVAC Supervisor will manage a team of HVAC and General Maintenance Technicians, report to the Facility Manager, and play a pivotal role in ensuring the university’s HVAC systems operate efficiently, safely, and within budgetary guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management: Supervise and provide direction to HVAC and General Maintenance Technicians. Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture among the Mount Vernon team.
  • Operations & Maintenance: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of the university’s HVAC infrastructure, including steam boilers, chillers, and cooling towers. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety codes, regulations, and environmental standards. Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment lifespan and reduce downtime. Work closely with the Building Automation and Controls team to optimize system efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Project & Budget Management: Plan and oversee HVAC system upgrades, retrofits, and capital projects. Prepare and present budget reports, cost estimates, and operational plans for senior leadership. Identify cost-saving opportunities through energy efficiency initiatives and preventative maintenance strategies. Select and manage contracts with third-party vendors for maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements. Ensure vendor performance meets contractual obligations, university standards, and project deadlines. Review invoices and ensure spending aligns with budget forecasts.
  • Scheduling & Compliance: Develop and maintain HVAC operations schedules to ensure uninterrupted campus operations. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ASHRAE, and other regulatory bodies. Respond to emergency HVAC issues and coordinate rapid response plans.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC operations.
  • Experience in managing large-scale HVAC systems, including steam boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls.

Skills & Certifications:

  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems design, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Strong project management skills, including scheduling and execution.
  • HVAC/R License, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), DC 3rd or DC 1st Stationary license, or other relevant certifications preferred.
