The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS brands such as MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, and Powerware/Eaton. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, emergency service calls at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities, and providing engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Travel daily with an independent work structure.
  2. Be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off-call.
  3. Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
  4. Install and repair static switch and PDU systems.
  5. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
  6. Interact with customers and communicate availability to the office and team leads.
  7. Protect proprietary information, manuals, and records.
  8. Use electronic and electrical test equipment as needed.
  9. Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors.
  10. Maintain safe and operational company or personal vehicles, including insurance.
  11. Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards.
  12. Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.
  13. Provide technical support to customers as requested.
  14. Maintain technical documentation for review.
  15. Attend product-specific training as necessary and cross-train others.
  16. Perform other duties as required.

Inspect static power systems, including initial, in-process, visual, and final inspections, maintenance checks, failure analysis, and repairs. Certify systems and components adhere to quality standards, review system drawings, determine maintenance requirements, and resolve discrepancies through research or physical inspection. Provide technical assistance, perform inspections, and advise site personnel on maintenance practices. Prepare reports and recommend system improvements.

The physical demands include lifting batteries and working safely. Maintain operational expertise with digital multi-meters, insulation testers, and battery testing equipment (Alber/Midtronics). Availability 24/7/365 is required when on call, with potential overnight travel at company expense.

The role is supervised by regional managers and team leads, with a degree of autonomy within established policies. The primary purpose is to inspect and certify power electronics, ensuring reliability, availability, and quality of power systems.

Qualifications:

  • AA/BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent training.
  • At least 2+ years of experience with UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and related electrical apparatus.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics, knowledge of NEC, maintenance practices, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctions and employ testing techniques.
  • Proficient with laptops, software, and communication devices.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Future training includes manufacturer maintenance courses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Abilities required:

  • Lifting at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Relocating a 12-foot ladder without assistance.
  • Working at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
  • Walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead regularly.
  • Good vision, color perception, hearing, and communication in English.
  • Recognize issues or potential problems.
  • Apply rules to specific problems and synthesize information.
  • See close-range details and understand spoken information.
