The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS manufacturers (e.g., MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, Powerware/Eaton). They perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency services at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities. The group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions.
Responsibilities
- Travel daily with an independent work structure.
- Be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off call.
- Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
- Repair, replace, install batteries, and perform related tasks.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment under contract.
- Interface with customers professionally.
- Communicate availability status to the corporate office and team leads.
- Protect proprietary information, manuals, and records.
- Use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
- Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors when hired.
- Maintain vehicle in safe and operational condition, with required insurance.
- Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
- Provide technical support to customers upon request.
- Maintain technical documentation for review.
- Attend product-specific training as required.
- Cross-train with other UPS technicians as needed.
- Perform inspections and certifications of power electronic systems, including UPS, batteries, static transfer switches, and power distribution units, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
- Review and interpret system drawings and specifications, determine maintenance needs, and resolve discrepancies.
- Provide technical assistance and expertise on power electronic devices, including inspections, maintenance, and site personnel training.
- Adhere to safety standards during physical tasks such as battery loading and unloading.
- Maintain operational proficiency with various testing instruments.
- Be available 7x24x365 when on call, with potential overnight travel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Controls
Work is performed under general supervision of Regional Managers and Team Leads. The technician receives assignments based on schedules and priorities, with autonomy within established policies. The primary purpose is to inspect and certify power electronics, ensuring reliability, availability, and quality of power systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years OEM experience with power electronic systems (e.g., Vertiv, SCI, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton).
- Experience with UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and electrical apparatuses such as switchgears, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATSs, and generators.
- AA/BS degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent military/field training.
Candidate Expectations
- Ability to interpret complex technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality control procedures.
- Skill in evaluating electrical systems, diagnosing malfunctions, and estimating maintenance needs.
- Proficiency with laptops, software, and electronic communication devices.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to undergo manufacturer training and certification courses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred.

- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds regularly, following safety protocols.
- Ability to relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
