The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS manufacturers including Ametek, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, and Powerware/Eaton. They perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency services at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities. The group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions.

Responsibilities

  1. Travel daily with an independent work structure.
  2. Be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off-call.
  3. Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
  4. Perform battery repair, replacement, and installations.
  5. Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on contracted equipment.
  6. Interface with customers and communicate availability status to the office and management.
  7. Protect proprietary information, manuals, and records.
  8. Use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
  9. Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors.
  10. Maintain vehicle safety and operational standards, including insurance.
  11. Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards.
  12. Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.
  13. Provide technical support to customers upon request.
  14. Maintain technical documentation for review.
  15. Attend product-specific training as required.
  16. Cross-train with other UPS technicians as needed.
  17. Perform inspections and certify systems adherence to quality standards.
  18. Review system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  19. Provide technical assistance and expertise on power electronic devices.
  20. Observe safety standards, including physical demands like lifting batteries.
  21. Maintain operational expertise with various testing instruments.
  22. Be available 24/7 when on call, including overnight travel if necessary.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Controls

Work is performed under the supervision of Regional Managers and Team Leads, with a degree of independence within established policies. The role primarily involves inspection and certification of power electronics to ensure reliability, availability, and quality of power systems.

Qualifications

  • AA/BS degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent military/field training.
  • Minimum of 5+ years OEM experience or 8+ years in power electronic system maintenance and repair.

Candidate Expectations

  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, plans, and schematics.
  • Knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate electrical systems, perform damage assessments, and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Proficiency with laptops, software, and communication devices.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo manufacturer training and certification.

Abilities

  • Lifting at least 100 pounds, working at heights up to 60 feet, and using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Good vision, color perception, and communication in English.
  • Ability to recognize problems and apply general rules to solve them.
  • Physical ability to perform routine tasks involving climbing, lifting, and reaching.

Pay Range: USD $42.59 - USD $66.56 per year.
