Job Purpose

The VP, R&D plays a vital role in developing fairlife's R&D program, driving innovation and growth. Responsibilities include leading applied research in dairy food processing and nutrition, managing a team of scientists, collaborating with Coca-Cola's science and nutrition divisions, and fostering innovation through patents and new product development. This role also involves attracting top talent and expanding intellectual assets.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate and discover new ingredients and functional foods.
  • Develop processes for milk fractionation and beverage stability.
  • Research health benefits of food components.
  • Assist with patent research and development.
  • Coordinate with research centers and universities.
  • Explore new analytical techniques and equipment.
  • Analyze trends and consumer perceptions.
  • Collaborate with Coca-Cola's science divisions.
  • Stay current with scientific research in nutrition and processing.
  • Provide technical support and training to processing facilities.
  • Lead research on raw milk components.
  • Maintain comprehensive research records.
  • Develop a world-class dairy/food research center.
  • Create processes for nutritional products.
  • Maximize intellectual property.
  • Expand laboratories and pilot plants.
  • Participate in manufacturing expansion projects.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Dairy Science, Food Science, or related field.
  • At least 10 years in dairy/food research at a senior level.
  • Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Leadership and team development experience.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and patents.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions

  • Up to 8 hours sitting/standing/walking.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Food Safety

  • Report issues affecting product quality or safety.
  • Comply with safety policies.
  • Prevent nonconformities related to food safety.
  • Record and address food safety problems.

Position Details

Location: Chicago, IL (onsite)

Reports to: Chief Science Officer

Travel: 40%, domestic and international
