Overview
Anne Arundel County Government is hiring for a full-time, permanent Cashier II position within the Office of Finance.
Under general supervision, accepts custody of cash receipts and fee payments, issues cash advances, maintains cashier's change fund, accounts for daily cash receipts, prepares daily bank deposits, and maintains records for reconciliation, all in accordance with established procedures.
Nature and Variety of Work
Work involves responsibility for receiving, validating, and recording payments for county taxes and services. Work requires accuracy in all phases associated with the proper receipt of money, including counting and tabulating funds and maintaining routine clerical records. Work is performed independently within established policies, procedures, and regulations, and is reviewed by a superior during progress and upon completion for accuracy and adherence to proper money handling procedures. Work involves monitoring personnel to ensure adherence to established cash control policies and procedures. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment and initiative in adherence to County policies and procedures and training of cashiers. Incumbents are expected to operate a personal computer and associated equipment and standard software applications, and other office equipment with efficiency and accuracy.

- Receives monies by mail or in person in payment of taxes, licenses, utility bills, alimony and child support, or related charges; verifies checks against bills and verifies that account numbers are on checks; balances cash; prepares required tabulations, including batching for data processing; prepares bank deposits for all monies received.
- Makes change and issues receipts for monies accepted at the window; inspects payment for counterfeit, foreign, or damaged currency; inspects checks for proper amount, date, signature, and endorsement; classifies receipts and validates documents.
- Computes interest for late payments of water and tax bills.
- Processes petty cash vouchers, issuing cash to various county employees; balances and replenishes petty cash periodically.
- Reads totals of cash registers and balances with the amount of money in the register and/or safe; maintains records of all transactions, receipts, and disbursements; furnishes input for the daily cashier's report.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cash accounting methods, practices, and procedures governing handling and reporting transactions.
- Knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Skill in performing arithmetic computations.
- Skill in accurately recording financial transactions.
- Skill in operating a calculator, validating machines, check endorsers, and other office machines.
- Ability to count money accurately and tabulate receipts.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all contacts.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Education: Graduation from high school.
Experience: Four (4) or more years of experience in cashiering.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Two (2) or more years of experience processing transactions in MUNIS or a similar finance system.
- Two (2) or more years of experience using Excel and performing reconciliations.
- One (1) or more years of banking experience.
- Two (2) or more years of experience processing credit card and ACH transactions.
