Position Overview:
JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the accounting team as the Accounting Clerk. The Accounting Clerk plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by performing financial, administrative, and clerical tasks, and ensuring data accuracy. You will use your excellent verbal and written communication skills and your ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, as well as utilize your understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and your experience with Financial Edge NXT, to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. Please note: this position is not responsible for credit management or collections. This position reports directly to the Senior Accountant and works closely with multiple JFS programs as well as the rest of the accounting team.
Responsibilities:
- Log and track all cash, check and credit card receipts
- Create and record accounts receivable and cash receipts batches in Financial Edge in compliance with financial policies and procedures
- Apply payments to grant and contract invoices, preparing credit memos and adjustments as needed
- Create general journal entries to record cash and donation receipts
- Verify and record donor gifts, client payments, electronic funds transfers, and other transactions related to revenues and accounts receivable
- Prepare monthly billing statements for fee-for-service clients
- Analyze monthly accounts receivable aging reports. Communicate with program managers regarding past due accounts
- Assist in the month-end close process and the annual audit
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned
Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Associates degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of experience in accounting
- Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including journal entries and general ledger
- Intermediate Excel skills, including spreadsheets, formulas, formatting, and data management
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to apply common sense and critical thinking to analyze transactions, research and resolve problems, carry out instructions and make decisions within scope of authority
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Fast and accurate 10-key data entry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance with JFSSD policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA
Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:
- Experience with Financial Edge NXT or other professional accounting software highly desired
