Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an Accounting Manager for our client, the nation’s largest operator, manager, and franchisor of chiropractic clinics. We are seeking a strong leader to manage the company’s core accounting activities, identify opportunities to enhance processes, and support system improvements that drive efficiency while fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the execution of daily accounting operations and the monthly close process with accuracy, timeliness, and integrity. Reporting to the VP Controller, this role plays a vital part in delivering reliable financial reporting, reinforcing internal controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This full-time, hybrid role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and support documentation across key financial statement areas.
  • Partner with the Controller to deliver schedules, analyses, and documentation supporting financial reporting and SEC submissions.

Accounting Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee payroll-related accounting, coordinating closely with HR and payroll vendors to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage equity accounting, including stock-based compensation entries, vesting schedules, reconciliations, and related reporting.
  • Collaborate with Legal, HR, and external administrators to ensure precise handling of grants, terminations, and other equity events.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready records across payroll, equity, and operational accounting functions.

Internal Controls & SOX Compliance

  • Perform and document internal control procedures in accordance with SOX, including reconciliations, review signoffs, and journal entry approvals.
  • Support audit preparation by providing testing materials and documentation that meet compliance requirements.
  • Assess control weaknesses and process gaps, recommending enhancements to strengthen compliance and efficiency.

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to streamline recurring accounting activities and reduce manual dependencies.
  • Contribute to system enhancement initiatives and adopt best practices to drive efficiency, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain standardized process documentation to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer across the team.

Audit & External Reporting Readiness

  • Prepare audit workpapers, schedules, and supporting documentation for assigned areas.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to auditor requests while maintaining year-round audit readiness.
  • Partner with the Controller to proactively identify and resolve potential audit challenges.
  • Mentor and support junior staff and outsourced partners through guidance, feedback, and coaching.
  • Set clear performance expectations, review deliverables, and ensure high-quality execution of responsibilities.
  • Promote a collaborative and growth-focused culture centered on accountability, professional development, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, including supervisory or management duties, preferably within public accounting.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP with hands-on expertise in month-end close, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Background in payroll and equity accounting is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable in SOX requirements with practical experience maintaining and executing internal controls.
  • Demonstrated track record of streamlining processes and driving system improvements.
  • Highly organized with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Supportive leadership skills; gifted at guiding team members’ development and fostering strong partnerships across departments.

Compensation and Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary in the range of $110,000 to $115,000 DOE plus incentive compensation, this position offers medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401k with a generous company match; and 2 weeks of accrued PTO, and flexible remote work permitted during the winter season.
