Experienced Accounting Assistant – Syracuse, NY

Accounting Assistant to support our Finance Department with a focus on Self-Direction billing, accounts receivable/payable, and payroll support. This role plays a key part in ensuring that individuals and families in our community receive the services and resources they depend on.

Responsibilities

  • Process billing and accounts receivable for the Self-Direction program
  • Manage accounts payable and vendor maintenance, ensuring timely and accurate payments
  • Resolve claim denials and troubleshoot billing discrepancies in collaboration with program teams and external contacts
  • Prepare and record deposits and maintain financial tracking statistics
  • Assist the Payroll Specialist with bi-weekly payroll processing and data entry
  • Communicate with Program Directors, Case Managers, and County Medicaid Offices to resolve client eligibility and funding issues
  • Support general finance functions and contribute to special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in accounting, finance, or billing (nonprofit or healthcare-related preferred)
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar platforms)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with internal teams and external agencies
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
