Title: Accounting Manager
Company: Biotechnology Industry
Compensation: $135,000-$150,000 (DOE)
We are a fast-growing biotechnology company in San Diego focused on advancing personalized medicine and accelerating drug development. The Accounting Manager will oversee core accounting operations, manage a small team, and partner with leadership and external stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and efficiency in a dynamic, scaling environment. The ideal candidate has a mix of public accounting and industry experience, strong technical expertise, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities
Lead the month-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
Oversee operational accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and general ledger management
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering development and performance
Manage and refine budgeting, forecasting, and allocation processes, including cost of sales and inventory accounting
Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
Research, document, and resolve complex accounting issues through technical memos
Partner with auditors, investors, and other external stakeholders on financial matters
Implement process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and controls
Maintain compliance with internal controls, including segregation of duties
Administer ERP system processes, including setup of new accounts and projects (NetSuite experience preferred)
Required Qualifications
CPA license (or actively pursuing)
4+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience (large public accounting firm experience strongly preferred)
Prior management or supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience with:
Revenue recognition and deferred revenue
Inventory accounting and cost allocation
Stock-based compensation
Grant and lease accounting (including right-of-use assets)
R&D accruals
Preparation of technical memos and financial statements
Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred)
