POSITION: Accounting Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
JOB GOAL:
To support the financial operations of Edgecombe County Public Schools by ensuring accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with state, local, and federal requirements, while providing guidance and training to school-based bookkeepers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12
SALARY: Edgecombe County Public Schools Finance Department Salary Schedule, plus local supplement.
EVALUATION:
Annually, using the Edgecombe County Public Schools Classified Performance Appraisal Instrument.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or finance-related fields.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software (LINQ preferred), Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- School finance experience, preferred.
JOB GOAL:
To support the financial operations of Edgecombe County Public Schools by ensuring accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with state, local, and federal requirements, while providing guidance and training to school-based bookkeepers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and record e-receipts, checks, and money orders; prepare daily bank deposits.
- Post monies in LINQ (general ledger) and enter miscellaneous journal entries.
- Process wire transfers as needed.
- Prepare and submit MAC quarterly report and annual Cost Report.
- Submit grant reimbursement requests and complete monthly FSRs for DEPC.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including the Local Government Commission (LGC) report.
- Manage yearly unclaimed property/escheats for Central Office and schools.
- Calculate and post STIF interest earned for the district.
- Request substitute reimbursement from outside agencies.
- Serve as liaison and trainer for school bookkeepers, providing guidance and support on financial procedures.
- Review charter school invoices, calculate per pupil allotments, and submit to Accounts Payable for payment.
- Audit schools' accounting records to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Fiscal Services.
