Description

The Office of Civil and Environmental Law (C&E) is an Office of the Attorney General. The Open Records andOpen Meetings Appeals Division is a part of C&E. The Open Records and Open Meetings Appeals Division presidesover appeals brought pursuant to the Open Records and Open Meetings Acts. C&E litigates civil cases on behalfof the Office of the Attorney General and the Commonwealth.

C&E has a vacant legal secretary position and is looking for a new member to join their team to providesupport to its administration of Open Records and Open Meetings Appeals and its active civil docket. Byjoining our team, you'll have the opportunity to make a positive impact across the Commonwealth and become akey team member in appeals submitted to the Office of the Attorney General and C&E's civil litigation.

This position will serve as the legal secretary for the Office of Civil and Environmental Law and willcomplete tasks such as:

  • Receive and log initiating documents, and organize and maintain electronic files in Open Records andOpen Meetings appeals.
  • Monitor electronic service mailbox on behalf of Open Records and Open Meetings Division.
  • Prepare, serve, and mail Open Records and Open Meetings opinions, letters, and other legal documents forattorneys in the Open Records and Open Meetings Division.
  • Type, prepare, and file lien notices for attorneys in a variety of Civil Litigation cases.
  • Organize and maintain files.
  • Receive and process information from attorneys as well as the courts.
  • Prepare and mail other documents as directed.
  • Create hard copy or electronic case files for legal proceedings, and stores or archives all legalrecords on behalf of Civil Division, as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Four years of clerical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:Clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
