Job Title: Unit Secretary/Coordinator

Location: Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, 1850 Bluegrass Ave., Louisville, KY 40215

Shift Options: Full Time, 7p-7a

About Us

UofL Health - Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital serving generations of patients in south Louisville. Founded in 1874 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, it offers vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative, and 24/7 emergency services, including STEMI care. The hospital features UofL Health – Weight Loss Care, utilizing the Lap-Band System, and the Orbera gastric balloon procedure. Recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for bariatric surgery, it also partners with UofL Health – Peace Hospital to operate a medical detox unit for substance use disorders. The nearby Brown Cancer Center offers comprehensive oncology and hematology care, research, and clinical trials. The campus includes three medical plazas providing primary and specialty care.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Interact effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, visitors, and other customers using verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Maintain patient records by properly sticker labeling, identifying, and filing all documents
  • Forward all medical records to the HIM department upon discharge
  • Ensure station census accuracy and correct patient information in computer systems
  • Keep workstations clean and organized
  • Report hazards and unsafe practices to leadership or appropriate personnel
  • Order, stock, and maintain clerical supplies and patient care documents
  • Write legibly and transcribe communications accurately
  • Maintain compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements to ensure confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Qualifications: Healthcare setting experience
