Job Title: Manufacturing Operation Engineer

Position Overview

FTS Inc. is seeking a skilled and driven Manufacturing Operations Engineer to support and enhance our global molding operations, with a primary focus on our Williamsport, MD site—planned to become our Injection Molding Center of Excellence. This role will play a critical part in advancing process consistency, efficiency, and innovation across our manufacturing network.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and toolmakers to optimize tooling, material conditioning, equipment setup, and overall production quality. You will also lead efforts in process improvement, preventative maintenance, and technology adoption, ensuring our operations meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. Some domestic and international travel will be required to align practices globally and support supplier engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Champion workplace safety, ensuring molding operations comply with company and industry standards.
  • Serve as a hands-on process expert, working on the production floor with technicians and operators to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and train staff.
  • Lead initiatives that standardize molding operations across multiple facilities, establishing Williamsport as a recognized hub of excellence.
  • Partner with toolmakers and suppliers to validate mold design, processing methods, and production readiness of molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Optimize raw material handling and auxiliary systems (e.g., dryers, grinders, hot runner controls, sprue pickers) to support efficient and reliable production.
  • Evaluate and recommend capital investments that enhance plant safety, performance, and long-term sustainability.
  • Support the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies, process simulations, and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) to solve operational challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership in post-processing activities, including automated material handling and assembly operations.
  • Prepare and deliver updates to leadership and collaborate across teams to meet schedules, milestones, and project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Materials Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct, hands-on experience with injection molding machines, tooling, and process setup.
  • Strong understanding of polymer processing, mold flow analysis, FEA, and hardware manufacturing methods (injection molding, stamping, CNC machining, assembly, etc.).
  • Familiarity with APQP processes including DFM, PFMEA, and PPAP.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and process simulation tools.
  • Skilled in using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet) for documentation and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and cultural environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, changing conditions and present solutions effectively to senior leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally; valid passport required.
