Position Summary

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries, and move them to and from storage areas, machines, and loading docks. This role is critical in the yard operations, ensuring the efficient and safe handling of products and materials.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklifts to load, unload, and transport materials within the facility
  • Move goods packed on pallets or in crates to designated storage areas
  • Ensure that loads are properly secured and balanced
  • Keep accurate records of materials loaded and unloaded
  • Assist in inventory counts and stock rotation
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on the forklift before operation
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures at all times
  • Ensure a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents
  • Work closely with warehouse staff and supervisors to coordinate tasks
  • Communicate effectively to ensure smooth operations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or similar environment is advantageous
  • Valid forklift operator certification
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and organizational skills

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in an outdoor facility with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and dust
  • Requires standing, bending, and lifting materials up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and manual labor tasks
  • Visual acuity to operate machinery and identify materials accurately
  • Use of PPE as required by facility guidelines and adherence to safety practices are required
