Overview
Welding Technician
A skilled metalworker with a focus on precision, quality, and safety. As a Welding Technician, you are a detail-oriented craftsman who understands the critical role of structural integrity and visual quality in every weld. This role is based in a fabrication and welding shop environment and involves exposure to sparks, fumes, heat, and noise. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, including welding helmets, gloves, protective clothing, and hearing/eye protection. Physical demands include frequent standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and extended periods of welding in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead), often with repetitive use of the arms and shoulders.

Qualifications
Education and Training
High school diploma or equivalent required
Vocational or technical training in welding is required
Experience Levels
Level 1: 1–2 years of welding or fabrication experience
Level 2: 2–5 years of experience; proficient in multiple welding processes and positions
Skills and Qualifications
Welding Proficiency: MIG/TIG welding; interpret welding symbols; familiarity with filler metals and gases
Certifications: AWS or equivalent certifications required for Levels 2
Quality: Knowledge of inspection techniques, welding codes, tolerances, and best practices
Problem-Solving: Identify and correct weld defects, adjust machine settings, and improve welding methods
Collaboration: Work effectively across Engineering, Quality, and Production
Schedule and Compensation
Standard schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Overtime may be required on Fridays during peak production periods
Compensation based on level and experience:
Level 1: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour
Level 2: $26.00 – $28.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Level 1 – Welder I
Leadership: Entry-level role with no leadership responsibilities
Basic Welding Operations: Perform MIG and/or TIG welding on mild steel, aluminum, or stainless steel under supervision; Read and follow basic blueprints and welding symbols; Inspect welds for accuracy and make minor corrections
Equipment Setup and Maintenance: Assist with setting up welding machines and basic maintenance tasks; Report equipment issues to senior welders or supervisors
Safety and Housekeeping: Comply with PPE and shop safety requirements; Maintain a clean and organized workstation
Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior welders and technicians; Communicate problems or delays to supervisors
Level 2 – Welder II
Leadership: Provide guidance to entry-level welders; May lead small welding projects
Advanced Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead); Work with a range of materials and thicknesses with minimal supervision; Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams
Blueprint Interpretation and Quality Control: Read complex welding symbols and blueprints; Perform intermediate inspections and initial defect analysis
Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose equipment or material issues such as porosity or wire feed inconsistencies; Conduct preventative maintenance on welding equipment
Mentorship and Efficiency: Train Level 1 welders in technique and safety; Recommend improvements to reduce scrap and cycle times
Safety and Compliance
Follow all shop safety protocols and participate in ongoing safety training
Wear required PPE at all times
Report any unsafe conditions or practices immediately
