Job Summary

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) ensures the integrity and quality of welded components used in structural fabrication. This role is responsible for conducting visual inspections, reviewing welding procedures, and performing non-destructive testing (NDT) in accordance with AWS, IAS, IBC, and other applicable standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and committed to maintaining high safety and quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of welds to ensure compliance with AWS, IAS, IBC, and company standards.
  • Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) including dye penetrant, magnetic particle, or ultrasonic testing as needed.
  • Review welding procedures, specifications, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and logs in accordance with QA protocols.
  • Collaborate with production managers, engineers, welders, and quality control technicians to resolve welding-related issues.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining production processes related to fitting and welding operations.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action planning for weld-related defects.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to all safety guidelines during inspections and testing.

Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in welding inspection or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with NDT methods and inspection tools.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments under pressure.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting in a production environment.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, and airborne particles typical of a manufacturing facility.
  • Required use of protective gear including gloves, goggles, and steel-toed boots.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and maneuver in tight spaces when inspecting welds.
