Job Summary

Youth Sports Event Staff serve as building and/or stadium personnel in the operation, engagement, and supervision of Youth Sports Events. Applicants must have current MPS School Safety or Event Staff training/certification. Availability on Saturdays is required, with some weekday opportunities. Hours depend on team registration.

The Youth Sports Office is currently hiring Event Staff for Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons. Training will be provided if needed.

Position Summary

  • Provide a safe environment for teams, participants, and spectators.
  • Assist with crowd control and maintain order within the facility.
  • Assist with scanning and entry control operations.
  • Support Building/League Directors with crisis intervention, game management, and handling hostile situations.
  • Provide directions and instructions to spectators.
  • Set up crowd control and safety equipment.
  • Ensure secure and safe dressing facilities for visiting teams and officials.
  • Assist with staging pre-game and post-game activities.
  • Follow and enforce Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Adhere to all policies outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual.
  • Have the physical ability to set up and break down sites as needed.
  • Attend mandatory Middle School Basketball Officials training.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Required

Work under the supervision of the Youth Sports Supervisor and Building/League Director at the designated site.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of MPS Athletics or Youth Sports safety procedures.
  • Current MPS School Safety certification.
  • Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Garrett Metal Detection System training.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and situational management.
  • Ability to meet scheduling needs.
  • Professional conduct and appearance.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications (training provided if needed).
  • Availability for mandatory in-service trainings.

Preferred Experience

Experience working in a public setting with diverse populations is preferred.

  • Effective communication skills with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with coworkers and staff.

Working Environment

This environment involves walking, climbing, standing for long periods, and exposure to loud noises in gym or similar settings. Staff will supervise groups of children and adults and assist with accommodating individuals with disabilities, within the scope of provided training.
