Position
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all duties of the department or area. This includes improving safety, reducing costs, improving quality, and maximizing the department\'s effectiveness through long-term planning and project implementation. This role coordinates communication among and between Warehouse Operations and Production planning and operations. The Warehouse Supervisor manages hourly employees who perform receiving, storage, material delivery and shipping functions in support of plant production operations. The Supervisor is responsible for providing their team with the appropriate training and development and ensuring consistent rollout of plant policies and procedures.
Key Outputs / Deliverables
- Supervise day-to-day activities of the assigned department.
- Provide guidance and training to hourly workforce to ensure production, supply chain and quality goals are met.
- Meet scheduled commitments on a timely basis with respect to mixing, sifting and delivering WIP to designated areas.
- Meet shipping and receiving schedules as well as inventory control and accuracy.
- Maintain positive employee relations and open communications while resolving employee discipline or performance issues.
- Maintain professional relationships with other departments within the plant and corporate offices.
- Prepare paperwork / reports on a timely basis.
- Follow all sanitation, GMP, safety, quality and employee relation programs.
- Confirm processes are run in accordance with SOPs, SOPPs and other documentation.
- Identify, recommend, develop and implement improvements in safety, quality, processes, costs and SOP documentation.
- Ensure safe work instructions are available for all positions.
- Meet ad-hoc customer requirements or deal with unexpected supply chain disruptions.
- Develop, maintain and empower a quality-conscious attitude among employees.
- Help identify long-term opportunities and solutions for continuous improvement.
- Promote open communications between shifts and departments.
- Develop teamwork within teams and drive LEAN activities to improve performance.
- Ensure all raw material, packaging material, WIP and finished goods are handled within GMP and FIFO guidelines.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives to improve performance and cost of the warehouse operation. Manage the budget for warehousing and potential investments.
- Ensure all employees have the required level of safety training; all equipment and installations are maintained with safety guards and devices; associates use appropriate PPE.
- Ensure activities with environmental impact are communicated and performed according to environmental management systems.
Qualifications
- BA/BS in Logistics / Supply Chain preferred
- Minimum 5 years related work experience (including military).
- Firm understanding of manufacturing production, distribution and logistics processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong troubleshooting / problem-solving (analytical) skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills (ability to effectively work with all levels from hourly to management).
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency in SAP, GLOBE (internal candidates), MRP.
- Ability to periodically lift loads heavier than 30-50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and/or walk more than 50-75% of a shift if required.
Minimum Experiences
- 3 years progressive experience in a manufacturing, warehouse or military environment.
- 2+ Previous supervisory/people leader responsibilities preferred.
- Preferred: Experience in the food processing, aseptic or pharmaceutical industry.
- Preferred: experience using SAP
