Responsibilities
- Think, communicate, and behave as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members, promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes, practices, and games to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
- Support participants in achieving their youth development goals by answering questions and maintaining knowledge of sports and activities.
- Build authentic relationships with students and parents, encouraging involvement and identifying potential volunteers.
- Convey information about programs and schedules, and refer participants and parents to other programs when appropriate.
- Keep accurate records of attendance and progress reports.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations appropriately.
- Prepare and maintain the activity areas, organize equipment, and report damaged items.
- Officiate sports and activity matches and games as scheduled.
- Assist in supervising volunteers involved in sports or activities.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, running, using hands, reaching, talking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include distance vision and depth perception. The work environment can be loud and may involve exposure to outside weather conditions.
Qualifications
- A passionate belief in the YMCA’s mission to nurture potential, support healthy living, and serve the community.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications must be obtained within the first 60 days.
- Must be at least 16 years old with experience in instructing or participating in relevant activities; previous instructing experience is preferred.
