General Summary

Under direct supervision from a leader on the Leadership Salary Plan (grade up to and including M07), the Medical Secretary provides essential medical operations support to the orthopedic clinical department. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting. The Medical Secretary also assists with special projects as defined and assigned by the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations for multiple providers within the orthopedic department
• Answer and direct phone calls with professionalism and strong phone etiquette
• Schedule appointments and coordinate patient flow using EPIC and other systems
• Perform accurate keyboard typing and data entry
• Maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff
• Demonstrate willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Support clinical staff with administrative tasks and special projects

Education/Experience Required

• Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• One (1) year of experience within a medical office setting preferred
• Literacy and experience working with Microsoft Software Programs required
• Previous experience scheduling appointments/maintaining calendars preferred
• Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with callers and visitors, and to provide information requiring ordinary courtesy and tact
• Ability to distribute departmental mail and other materials; familiarity with medical terminology
