Description
The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides servicesand programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children andvulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.
The Nurse Consultant/Inspector position provides investigative and technical consultative services to DCBSSocial Workers in the assessment of medical needs and overall health outcomes for children and families servedby the department. Their collaborative work is instrumental as it impacts the overall health outcomes, bothphysical and behavioral, of children served by DCBS, including those with medically complex designations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide technical and consultative services to staff by serving as the Managed Care Organizations (MCO) andMedically Complex liaison to ensure appropriate and timely services are provided to children in Out of HomeCare placements. Assess children who enter Out of Home Care with a medical diagnosis to help staff identify ongoingphysical/behavior health needs and ensure that resources are identified for case planning and provide staffwith ongoing case management support. Provide consultation and medical support, outside of medical complex designations, on physical/behavioralhealth needs of children/families served by DCBS upon request of the social worker and/or supervisor to linkfamilies/children with available resources. Conduct monthly case review meetings with the departments' medical director to identify, monitor and measurequality health indicators for children in OOHC and provide consultation/training/education with regional staffon findings and develop strategies to improve outcomes for children/families. Provide ongoing support and monitoring to assist with the transition of children stepping down from amedically complex designation to ensure they receive ongoing medical services/resources and case management. To better ensure children in the department's care are receiving appropriate medication, NCI's will provideconsultation and medical decision-making support to staff and/or expedite an immediate referral to MedicalDirector for informed consent issues. Participate in workgroups that inform training and policy development, will participate in ongoing trainingsto stay abreast of issues impacting children's overall health outcomes, both physical and behavioral,including those with medical complex designations. Other Duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will have:
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good time management and organizational skills. The ability to work well under pressure. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Good attention to detail. The ability to problem-solve and assist in recommending solutions for identified issues. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in nursing will substitute for the required experience.
