The City of Pasadena Public Works Department is seeking a diplomatic individual with an eagerness to learn to fill the position of Inspector Trainee.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting daily inspections of construction and demolition projects in the field as well as assisting with enforcement of anti-scavenging of recyclable material, and violation of product disposal bans. This position will report to and will also act as a back-up to the Senior Code Enforcement Officer to assist with enforcement of public right-of-way violations. This position will be assigned to the Resource Recovery & Recycling Division of Public Works Department.

Essential Functions The following list represents some of the essential functions for the position. For more detailed information, please review the Inspector Trainee job description Drive to various locations throughout the City to conduct housing, property maintenance, and zoning inspections for compliance to municipal codes, plans, conditions of approval, and housing, property maintenance, and zoning codes; Read and interpret housing, property maintenance, building, electrical, zoning, public right of way, plumbing and mechanical codes, and applies said codes during site inspections; Read and interpret construction and demolition applications ; Prepare written notices, warnings, citations, inspection and other reports; Present cases of noncompliance before the Code Enforcement Commission and refer cases to the City Prosecutor's office, as needed; Research property histories and municipal codes; Attend neighborhood meetings and special events; Perform related duties as assigned. One yearof experience in the building, planning, construction and/or rehabilitation fields, preferably in code compliance or environmental violations related to scavenging of recyclables and or product disposal bans. Completion of college-related courses in Inspection Technology may substitute in part for the experience requirement. An Inspector Trainee may be required to enroll in school for related education courses in Inspection Technology. SELECTION PROCESS Applicants who appear to be best qualified will be invited to any combination of written, performance, or oral appraisal to further evaluate their job related experience.
VACANCY INFORMATION
There is currently one full-time vacancy in the Resource Recovery & Recycling Division in the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
Special Requirements Must possess P.C. 832 certification through the State of California by the end of probation and as a condition of continued employment.
Must possess a valid Class C California Driver's License at time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
May be required to provide an operable motor vehicle for the purpose of performing field inspections and other related duties.
Must be available to work special events occurring on nights and weekends, as required. Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPER (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
