Description
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking to fill weekend naturalist positions at Watkins Nature Center, located in Watkins Regional Park, Upper Marlboro, MD.
Examples of Important Duties General duties include: Assists with summer day camp activities and programs. Provides interpretive programs using aids, handouts, demonstration, oral presentation and other methods appropriate to the subject. Responds to questions of the group, explaining the natural processes involved in the subject. Provides daily animal care, feeding, and maintenance to live animal collection including insects, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Administers medication when needed. Handles animals during care and presentation of animals to the public and during programs. Monitors buildings and grounds to ensure safety, security, and cleanliness of facilities. Maintains and makes minor repairs to exhibits, gardens, and trails. Provides excellent customer service by greets visitors and answer questions and requests in person and on the phone. Minimum Qualifications Preferred candidates will possess:
Knowledge of the natural or life sciences acquired through college level course work Experience working with children and the public Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and hike trails with uneven terrain Excellent customer service and communication skills Valid Driver's License Supplemental Information

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.
Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees Health Insurance Plans You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
