We are currently looking for a Part Time 29 Breastfeeding Peer Counselor I to join our WIC Breastfeeding Education and Promotion Manager team located at the Carl Albert Service Center working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr.

Summary: A woman from the target WIC population who has had a positive breastfeeding experience with her own child(ren) in the past five years and will enthusiastically share breastfeeding information and give support to pregnant and breastfeeding women participating in the WIC program.

Responsibilities: * Teaches effective breastfeeding techniques to WIC clients through one-on-one appointments and/or in a classroom setting * Evaluates breastfeeding infants' health status by assessing infant height/weight, signs of milk transfer and accurately assessing information taken from mother's report * Creates basic care plans for low-risk breastfeeding participants * Assesses need for referral to other health care professionals such as RD, IBCLC and/or DHS * Communicates participant needs to team members and health care professionals as needed * Evaluating needs of breastfeeding participants for the use of breastfeeding aids such as type of breast pump needed, appropriately sized nipple shields and appropriately sized nursing bra * Maintains records on breast pumps loaned to participants and disinfecting breast pumps once returned * Offers twenty-four seven support and education to prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding women * Counsels participants on their identified breastfeeding needs using Heart Button motivational counseling techniques and be able to refer to the IBCLC for high-risk breastfeeding counseling as appropriate * Selects and prepares pre-approved and appropriate breastfeeding literature to participants * Conduct various activities to celebrate breastfeeding mothers and their infants * Prepares reports as needed or requested * Maintains files, logs, and records * Participates in meetings to ensure effective communication with staff, peers, supervisors and management * Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types - Answers questions in a courteous and professional manner - Greets and engages with a smile - Determines needs, seeks positive experience and outcomes * Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities * Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types - Maintains general upkeep of work area and maintains a safe environment - Maintains and promotes professionalism - Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics - Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards * Maintains knowledge of and follows all laws, rules, regulations, policies and SOPs for assigned area, e.g. MICS, TICS, hospital standards, health codes, food sanitation, accounting principles, etc. * Performs all other duties as assigned

Skills: Essential: * Basic Computer skills

Experience:

Nonessential: * 1 year directly related experience

Education: Essential: * High School, GED or Equivalent

Credentials: Essential: * Standard Driver's License * Pass general background check * Breastfeeding Educator Certification

Working Conditions: Essential: * Works in a hospital or clinic environment * Home visits * Pass pre-employment drug test
