Job Summary
This is a College of Dental Medicine Administration-level position within the Western University of Health Sciences and is offered in conjunction with a faculty appointment. Together, the administrative role of Associate Dean of BioMed Science (PCN 100100) and the faculty appointment comprise a full-time position (1.0 FTE / 5 days per week).

The Associate Dean for Research and Biomedical Sciences serve as the chief administrator responsible for promoting investigator-initiated scholarship within the college. The Associate Dean for Research and Biomedical Sciences facilitate basic science, translational and clinical research within the college and in conjunction with other research enterprises within the University.
The Associate Dean for Research and Biomedical Sciences direct the faculty in planning and securing resources, evaluating and implementing activities for the research program and managing the procurement of funds. The Associate Dean for Research and Biomedical Sciences also serve as a university representative both internally and externally and actively participates in various Institutional planning, implementing, and evaluating research activities.

Individuals must possess these skills, abilities and knowledge or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Recognized knowledge and experience in area of expertise. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both in writing and orally. Ability to interact in an effective and positive manner with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including administration, faculty, students, staff and outside contacts. Ability to effectively conduct detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality. Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities in an academic environment. Required Qualifications
Education:
PhD. And/or D.M.D or D.D.S. from an institution accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or equivalent. Completion of specialty program at an institution accredited by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or equivalent.
Licensure and Certification:
Must have active California dental license
or
be qualified to obtain licensure in California. Preferred Qualifications

Key Responsibilities
Coordinates and directs the biomedical sciences curriculum. Supervise CDM personnel as directed. Key Responsibilities
Promotes basic and applied/translational research within the College of Dental Medicine, Western University and other research institutions. Promotes clinical research within the College and with other institutions. Key Responsibilities
Works with the Dean and the Executive Committee to develop a strategic plan to support the growth of basic, translational, clinical research. Establishes relationships with other faculty and other institutions to promote the development of the research program. Advises faculty on institutional guidelines for conducting research at the college of Dental Medicine. Key Responsibilities
Advises and assists faculty on ACUC and IRB proposals, IND's, patenting, research contracts and intellectual property. Promotes the establishment of development of Centers of Research Excellence within the College. Key Responsibilities

Minimum $170,000.00 Annually
